Cancer Screening Guidelines
Our commitment to providing you with the region’s best cancer care begins with offering a comprehensive screening program designed to catch the disease before it has a chance to become serious.
Following are our suggested screening guidelines for people at average risk for cancer. Talk to your health care professional to determine the appropriate timetable for you.
Adult Men and Women
Colorectal
Begin screenings at age 50 if you have no family history of colon cancer. If possible, choose a test designed to find both cancer and polyps.
Oral
Have a clinical oral exam annually.
Skin
Perform a self-exam every month, and have a clinical exam every year.

If you have no family history of prostate cancer, you should begin having both PSA tests and a digital rectal exam each year beginning at age 50. For African Americans and those with a family history of this type of cancer, screenings should begin at 40.

Breast
Perform a monthly self-exam beginning at age 21. At age 40, begin having annual mammograms (or at age 35 if you have a family history of breast cancer).
